Uncommon: FG arraigns Supreme Court Judge Ngwuta for fraud

In yet another move that has left the Nigerian judiciary dazed, Justice Sylvester Ngwuta of the Supreme Court, was on Thursday April 20 arraigned on an eight-count charge of false declaration of asset.

Ngwuta is also facing fraud charges at the Federal High Court in Abuja. He was arraigned by the Federal Government at the Code of Conduct Tribunal, Abuja.

But Ngwuta pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Representing the federal government, the Director of Public Prosecution, Mohammed Umar, then asked the court for an adjournment to allow him present witnesses.

The defence counsel, Chief Kanu Agabi (SAN) did not object to the request for adjournment, but he applied orally for bail and got it for Ngwuta on self-recognition.

The case was adjourned till July 5 for trial.
