Pipeline vandals already used to siphoning stolen petroleum products opened fire on unsuspecting operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) Arepo, Ogun State, yesterday. The messy affair allegedly claimed the lives of 10 of them.
Different reports state that the thieves wore black with strips of red cloth tied around their heads. They broke an NNPC pipeline and loaded eight trucks with stolen petrol.
While some said the DSS men were cut down in a hail of bullets in Arepo as they attempted to storm the incident scene based on a tip off, others said the DSS men were attacked and killed somewhere else between Lagos and Ogun states.
While the DSS is in mourning, it isn’t clear how many of its men were killed in the ambush or went for the operation.
