So Pa Clarke 81 wants God to roast all Nigerian politicians

Octogenarian Robert Clarke, SAN, made lots of money handling cases for big Nigerian politicians decades ago. But perhaps with the benefit of hindsight at 81, he now wants them – old and new – all roasted up to pave the way for a new order in his country.

In a recent interview with Punch newspapers, he said “If I were God, I would send thunder and fire on all politicians in Nigeria so that we can start all over again.

“Or I wish that by the grace of God, something should happen and the system is destroyed – not the people but the system – and there are people who can bring in a new system, I would be so grateful.”

This he said barely a week to the 2019 presidential election, which many say is a straight ballot tussle between incumbent Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Abubakar Atiku of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Pa Clarke was quite successful as a lawyer. He had handled cases for late President Shehu Shagari and others in his government. He has belted over 50 years in legal practice.

His grouse with Nigerian politicians is their impunity in corruption. That they loot government treasuries like nobody can do anything about it even when they are caught.

Well, preposterous as his remedy to Nigeria’s brand of corruption may sound, the good part is that there isn’t likely to be bloodshed since every looter will be roasted.

Without meaning to discount the seriousness of Nigeria’s endemic corruption, I doubt God would go on a roast pogrom to fix Nigeria. I also don’t think the divine bonfire and carnage, Pa Clarke craves, would spare even non-politicians. Lol.

Well, if the discerning and the educated would go out by the millions and vote sanely for the first time in Nigeria, the ballot box would be the best oven for corrupt politicians.
