Silverbird ‘Man of the Year’ and outgoing Governor of Delta State, Dr. Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan, 60, paid his wife the biggest compliment in public by announcing her as de facto Governor of Delta State. He said this at the just concluded annual award ceremony of the Silverbird Group held at the Eko Hotel convention centre Sunday evening, May 3, 2015.
Uduaghan was one of three outstanding performers who bagged Silverbird Man of the Year awards. Others are Innocent Chukwuma, Chairman, Innoson Motors, who rolled out hundreds of made-in-Nigeria cars and buses last year, and Dr. Akinwunmi Adeshina, outgoing Minister of Agriculture who reduced drastically the fertiliser racketeering and significantly improved agricultural production.
“I am just the face of the governorship of Delta State; my wife is the real Governor” Uduaghan told the distinguished audience. His wife, Roli, could not believe her ears or the honour being done to her in public. She is the daughter of Brig. General Sunny E. Tuoyo (Rtd), at one time Military Administrator of Ondo State.
Having spent eight years as governor, Uduaghan thanked Roli for being his soul mate and best adviser. According to him she was one of the main reasons he is still standing despite persecution from his party, PDP, and the civil unrest he inherited as governor, among the ethnic tribes in Delta State.
His greatest joy, he said, was that him and his wife were bequeathing a more peaceful state (devoid of ethnic wars) to his successor, and to this he dedicated his award as Silverbird Man of the Year 2014. Roli’s joy knew no bounds. She danced all the way back to her seat.
Her husband had also warned all husbands (brother governors, politicians, etc) listening to him… “Hold your wife. If you think this is the time to take another wife…” he took a prestige pause, decided not to complete the statement, and then rounded up by thanking his own wife for her patience and loyalty. Now you know why a very happy Roli danced all the way.
Late Chief Gani Fawehinmi, Alhaji Ibrahim Waziri and Dr. Sam Mbakwe were honored with the Silverbird Post Humous Awards while Alhaji Maitama Sule, Dr. Philip Asiodu, Dr. Gamaliel Onosode got the Silverbird Lifetime Achievement Awards.
Silverbird Special Recognition Awards were given to the Lagos State healthcare authorities and the First Consultants hospital team led by Dr. Benjamin Ohiaeri (with special mention of Dr. (Mrs) Adadevoh and the three other hospital staff who lost their lives to the Ebola attack they saved Nigeria from.
