
Congo’s most influential musician, Papa Wemba, has died aged 66, after collapsing on stage during a live performance early Sunday morning in Abidjan, Ivory Coast. He died doing what he knew best, entertaining others.
Papa Wemba, according to media reports slumped during the concert while his dancers continued to perform, initially unaware of what had happened.
He was confirmed dead by first responders before he could be transported to the hospital. The immediate cause of death may have been heart failure or seizure, but this was not known as at the time of the report.
Papa Wemba was famous for his kind of music; Soukus and his love for expensive designer fashion. He was one of Africa’s most popular musicians.
