Soon after their star-studded wedding, Edo State Governor, Adams Oshiomhole, and his newly-wedded wife, Iara, postponed their honeymoon. But from inside sources, Dubai in June is their most likely target. Cover photo shows President-elect Muhammadu Buhari with Adams and Iara Oshiomhole sealing their nuptials with a testy, not feisty, kiss.
Unlike most other states, Edo currently runs a different political timetable. Therefore Oshiomhole will not be quitting office on May 29 like Governor Babatunde Fashola of Lagos State for instance. So the new Mrs Iara Oshiomhole has quite a few years to enjoy her husband’s power and influence.
In the meantime, social media gossip pontiffs have been feasting on the celebrity marriage, insinuating that Iara may have married her much older, much shorter groom for money and first ladyship in Nigeria, rather than true love. Governor Oshiomhole had on Friday married former Miss Iara Fortes, an ex-model from Cape Verde, at a marriage ceremony witnessed by a large turnout of dignitaries from various sectors of the country and he was expected to proceed on a honeymoon with the new First Lady.
But it was gathered that the couple had placed their honeymoon on hold in order to attend the inauguration ceremony of the President-elect, General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.) scheduled for May 29 in Abuja. Buhari and his wife, Aisha were quite prominent at the Oshiomhole wedding.
Oshiomhole told The Guardian newspaper that his new wife “is more or less the mother of the house,” adding: “This is something that one is happy about. One is also happy that I have people across all political divides. The occasion reminds me that across all divides, we have friends and well wishers. She is very humble. She appreciates the nature of my work and life. That it is one that one comes back home late, sometimes 3.00a.m. She understands my weaknesses.”
“She is more or less the mother of the house; the one that has accepted to be the mother of my children. I am happy that all my children are at home with her and accept her as their mother. Even though she is not old enough to be their mother, she has accepted to fill that gap.”
Regarding where his wife hails from, Oshiomhole said: “I have seen a lot of publications, some saying she is Phillipino, Dutch and others, but she is from Cape Verde, which is part of West Africa, and I hope that puts to rest where is she is from.”
Parents of the bride, Mr. and Mrs. Fortes flew in from their home in The Netherlands to attend the ceremony, while the governor’s mother, Hajia Aishetu Oshiomhole, is understood as being the one who traditionally welcomed Iara into the Oshiomhole household.
The governor’s children, Steve, Adams and Jane and two of his grandchildren were also on hand to show love and support for their father and his wife.
