The Honorable Minister for Youth and Sports Development, Mr. Solomon Dalung has commended Peak Milk, Nigeria’s No.1 milk brand from the stables of FrieslandCampina WAMCO for its unending support for Nigeria’s Paralympic powerlifting team.
Representing Dalung, Mr. Peter Nelson, made this commendation during a courtesy visit to the company on Friday, June 8, 2018 while he led a delegation of foreign officials of the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) to show appreciation and to present the 2018 medals won by the team.
Delegates included the President, Nigeria Para-Powerlifting Federation, Mrs. Queen Uboh (RN); Vice President, Mr. Fuel Ishaku; Head Coach and Technical Director, Mr. Feyisetan Are, with two para-powerlifting athletes amongst others.
Are commended FrieslandCampina WAMCO “for empowering our athletes to consistently defy odds, push themselves to become world champions – setting, breaking, and resetting world para-powerlifting records, and for helping them achieve their dreams.”
The Managing Director, Mr. Ben Langat restated the Company’s commitment to the team: “We have followed your journey and are indeed proud to be affiliated with your formidable team. Our support is further fuelled by the obvious passion with which you pursue your dreams in the face of daunting challenges. We are encouraged by your show of appreciation through this visit and are assuring you of our unwavering support.”
In December 2016, FrieslandCampina WAMCO started by rewarding these champions for their achievements first with a monthly supply of milk all through the year. Then a media campaign titled “The Unstoppables” was launched in July 2017 to celebrate the athletes, raise public awareness for their achievements as well as inspire Nigerians to reach their goals through the “Unstoppable” theme song written and performed by the acclaimed music maestro, Cobhams Asuquo.
The final cap to this campaign was the renovation of the gymnasium in which these athletes train regularly, which was unveiled at the National Stadium by the Sports Minister, Dalung, in January this year. The gym which was first commissioned in 1972 has been given a major facelift and is now fitted with new, world class equipment courtesy of the Peak brand.
In February 2018, FrieslandCampina WAMCO sponsored two athletes, Kehinde Paul and Shade Oluwafemiayo to the 9th Fazza Para-powerlifting World Cup Championship in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, at which they both won gold medals and set new world records in their different categories.
