The most popular centenarian shepherd of the Celestial Church of Christ, Reverend Ebenezer Nupo Zannu is dead. He passed away peacefully in his sleep at about 3.00am in the early hours of Monday June 13, 2016. He was aged 105 years old; arguably the most famous shepherd of the church in that age bracket.
HAMILTONSTYLE spoke to one of his daughters, Bunmsena Zannu, while she attended to his remains at a Lagos morgue where his family rested him. He was first embalmed on his bed at home all through Monday as occasioned by his children. He was then moved to a new morgue in Ota, Ogun State.
“We all loved him. He remains the sweetest father and grandpa in the world to all of us. He died peacefully in his sleep overnight. It was the passage of a man at peace with himself and his Lord and Saviour” she said.
At 105 years, it was obvious that Rev. Zannu would not pass away ordinarily. According to Bunmsena: “For three days, he did not eat or talk to anyone. It was as if he communed with Celestial beings that no one else could see. So myself and my mom together with the shepherd in his church watched over him and slept in the room and on his bed with him for three days.” The number three is significant for Celestians.
Reverend Zannu hailed from Badagry Town, Lagos State. He was of the Egun stock whose forebears descended from Republic du Benin (Old Dahomey). To his credit, he founded the only surviving Celestial Grammar School, Ondo State.
He was the first shepherd of the Celestial Church of Christ in Badagry. He served as shepherd in Okitipupa and in Ondo Town where he founded the Celestial Grammar School. He was a shepherd in Kaduna, at Itire Parish, Surulere and in Ikorodu Road Parish, Fadeyi in Lagos State where he retired from active service due to old age.
He moved to his self-built home in Sango, a border town between Lagos and Ogun states where he founded and built a Celestial parish, Oluwajebe Ireakari.
Even at 105, he never needed a pair of glasses for sight. “Every specs he wore were ‘shakomended’ (for fashion) and he would climb and descend the staircase in his home without assistance” Bunmsena said.
On Sunday June 5, Reverend Zannu devoted his entire day playing with children in his parish during the annual Juvenile Harvest ceremony of the Celestial Church of Christ Worldwide. May his gentle soul rest in peace. Amen.[/fusion_builder_column][/fusion_builder_row][/fusion_builder_container]
