Chioma Mayrschofer, 9, wins in Germany; Bakky blames marketers for silly names

Nine-year-old Nigerian-German girl, Chioma Mayrschofer, has just won the VR Bank Art competition in Germany. She took part in VR Bank’s art competition through her school and won the prize money. She also got to display her art collection at Germany’s biggest bank art exhibition. Chioma didn’t think she would win, but her talent and boldness saw her through to the top. In her excitement, Chioma said, “When they announced names of the second and first runner up, and they didn’t call my name, I was disappointed, I thought I should at least take one of the two positions. I never expected that I will win. I already lost hope, only for me to hear my name as the winner. I was so excited. I leaped with joy. I am still so happy and so grateful to God” she said.

The veteran movie maker, script, writer, producer and director, Bakare Adeoye and husband to actress Iretiola Osayemi Bakare gave an insight on how and why Yoruba films have funny titles. He said after all the hard work of writing a script, employing producers and directors, paying set designers, suppliers and settling all the bills, then a marketer comes along to impose a title of his choice upon the movie. He decides how much you will be paid on the film you toiled so hard to produce and even decides when the movie will be released into the market. That explains why you have movies like Monday Omo Adugbo or Bashira Baseje, Ajeniya Mi etc. Lol.
