Hannah Abiola Friday was set to get married on Saturday May 9, 2015 in Lagos, Nigeria but on Wednesday, May 6, just three days to her wedding, she got crushed in a fatal auto crash along the Lekki-Ajah-Sangotedo highway. Herself and her heartthrob had set May 9 as wedding day after staying up north for awhile.
She was going to work the day she died. She was a sand merchant; a tough job for a fair-skinned and very pretty lady like her. But she did whatever she had to do to meet her obligations. Her death shook her entirely family and circle of friends, most of whom are just getting to know she is dead.
“Hannah was going to work on Wednesday to her sand supply business. But the vehicle she boarded ran under a trailer somewhere around Sangotedo area. (Sobs) We have lost a good person” said a family source.
On May 8, one of Hannah’s friends, Kamar Olajide Bakare had posted on her Facebook wall: “It shouldn’t have been you Hannah. We were all ready for your wedding tomorrow, Saturday (but) you left tragically on Wednesday. Gone too soon (Sob)”.
On March 4, 2015, she had created a virtual can of ice-cold, sweaty Coca Cola named ‘Hanny’ at shareacoke.com.ng and shared it with friends on her Facebook timeline.
Hanny, as she loved to call herself (variants; Hannyluv and Hannysexy) was loved by all. She had a sweet soul. She gladly took up the task of playing mother to two of her nephews – sons of her own late elder sister who had introduced her to the sand supply business.
She was very entrepreneurial. She co-owned a bulk SMS online platform called smoothlinkng.com, played mom to two young adults left behind by a dead sister, gladly dirtied herself with the sand supply business to earn a good living and at the same time she ran a degree course at the satellite campus of a Nigerian university.
Sometime last year, she met the man of her dreams and they did their traditional and registry wedding after which she conceived and bore a child. Now, one of her own sisters is taking care of Hanny’s child just as she took care of her late sister’s sons.
Hanny, died a fresh graduate, but had succeeded in building her own house where she was buried on Wednesday, May 13, 2015. Adieu, Hanny!
