Chairman of PDP, Colonel Sam Inokoba (rtd) led a mass defection of over 1000 members and officers of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Bayelsa State to the All Progressives Congress (APC) the yesterday, stunning pundits. He appeared at the main bowl of the Samson Siasia Sport Complex to an APC reception ceremony, with his fellow decampees.
Inokoba told the crowd: “Our desire to associate with fellow nationalists and those who have the interest of the nation at heart; our belief in the change commitment and desire to change Bayelsa State; our love for our state Bayelsa and the desire to rescue Bayelsans from their cries and agony perpetrated by PDP bad government and our desire to see Bayelsans happy and lift the glory of all lands to her position in the country has compelled us to join the APC” he said.
Timi Alaibe, former Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) and Senator Henieken Lokpobiri, in their own speeches at the charade, assured Bayelsans that APC will win the December 5th governorship elections in Bayelsa.
No doubt APC is looking more like PDP and the much touted CHANGE mantra keeps getting Nigerian hues and colours that dictionaries never affixed to it. One wonders if Goodluck and Patience Jonathan are jittery over the defection drama in their own backyard.
